1. (C) Ambassador delivered reftel oral message via telcon on
August 4 to Foreign Minister Marwan Muasher, who was in
Kuwait on official business. Ambassador stressed the need
for Jordanian help in steering the Arab League to support the
Iraqi Governing Council and Palestinian PM Abbas. Muasher
expressed his agreement with the Secretary's message and said
that Jordan would do its part to try and achieve a positive
outcome in Cairo.


2. (C) PM Abbas enjoys close relations with the GOJ, as
evidenced by his stops in Amman to meet with King Abdullah
both before and after his recent trip to Washington. During
the latter, Abbas expressed optimism following his Washington
meetings, according to FM Muasher.
