1. (U) The Jordanian government has nominated two
judges, Bassam Talaheen and Khalid Samam', to attend the
September 12-13 conference being co-hosted by USPTO and
the International Intellectual Property Institute (IIPI).
Their travel and per diem in Washington will be supported
by USAID Jordan's AMIR program. Mamoun Talhouni, the
director of the Jordan's National Library, worked with us
and the Ministry of Justice to identify these candidates.

2. (U) Jordan does not currently have a system of
specialized intellectual property courts. However,
Talhouni said that there was an interest in learning about
other countries' experiences in this area that could be
applied in Jordan.

3. (U) ACTION REQUEST. Post would appreciate points of
contact in Washington with which the AMIR program can work
to facilitate the judges' travel and participation in the
conference. Please email this information to Econ chief
Tom Goldberger at GoldbergerTH@state.gov and to USAID
program officer Jamal al-Jabiri at jal-jabiri@usaid.gov.
